Two Head Sculpture progress photos
Artist Statement:
I made two different sculptures with two different topics for each one. The first head sculpture was a representation of two different emotions, happiness, and anger, which are the two emotions that I can express a lot in some cases. The second head sculpture was a multicolor style of the word "Amazing!", which represents how I view art in general.
For the first head sculpture, I had to mold it into the nose to get it to stick out because that was the one part of the face that does that compared to the rest. The second thing I did was I had to press in the location where the eyes were so that I could place in two small balls to make them look like the pupils. As a result of the eyeball curving, I managed to create eyebrows for both faces, which was a way to demonstrate the feeling. The third thing I did was make the lips stick out, even though it was not like the nose part in reality, for another demonstration of the facial expression of both emotions. The fourth thing I did was draw in the inside of the lips and the ears. With the fifth step, I got to paint the faces by making the eyebrows black, the lips red, the eyes white, the ears red and the pupils along with the inside lips black.
For the second head sculpture, I curved in the word "Amazing" with three exclamation points and painted a heart containing the colors red, white, blue, and purple. I did the same with the dots around the heart and the lettering. For the word, I created a pattern of the four colors I used for the top of the head in the arrangement of red, white, blue, and purple then backward. I also painted the bottom of the neck light blue as a necklace that represents the feeling of peace with the sculpture.
For the two blocks for each head sculpture I used to keep them in position, I painted them in the form of warm and cool colors. The bigger block represented the use of warm colors in my sculptures. The smaller block represented the use of cool colors. The cool colors are what I see the most in art and real life and the warm ones are what I see the least.
